About this piece
Details: Origin: Afghanistan Age: Circa 1950 Dimensions: 9” Length x 6” Width x 3” Height Description: This hand-made semi-precious stone mosaic jewelry box is made from lapis lazuli, marble, and brown onyx. It probably took around 10 pounds of high quality lapis lazuli to build this box. It was originally given as a dowry gift to the royal family with lots of jewels inside. It is said that when one owns beautiful and valuable jewels, they must be placed inside of an equally beautiful and valuable jewelry box. The seams between the pieces of stone are almost indiscernible, revealing that the box was masterfully and carefully crafted by an extremely talented artist. The eagle, or oghâb (farsi), represents man bringing this jewelry box full of jewelry for his lover.
Hand-selected and imported by Sadiq Tawfiq. Every purchase includes the piece’s story.
