About this piece
Details: Origin: India Age: Circa 1800 Dimensions: 69.5” Height x 34.5” Width Description: These very strong panels were made from very good wood in India. They reveal some stories and history of the region. Each region of India has different ancient beliefs, cultures, and religions. The stories surrounding these beliefs are told and passed down to new generations over the course of history. The artist(s) that created these panels listened to these stories, and carved imagery from them into these panels to remind people of where they come from and who they are. Scenes from the stories of Kanishka, Shiva, and other regional gods and goddesses can be identified on these panels. These panels were used inside a temple to help illiterate people visualize and learn the stories and beliefs.
