About this piece
Details: Origin: Kabul, Afghanistan Age: Circa 1980 Dimensions: 12.5” Width x 18.5” Height x 0.5” Thickness Description: This unique sculpted relief depicts a very famous scene of an Afghan man playing the dohol for the Afghan Milli Attan, the national dance. During the Milli Attan, which is traditionally done on a national day, usually 10-15 men will dance to the sound of the dohal for approximately 5 minutes. The piece was hand created in a workshop in Kabul by a master artist. Many semi-precious stones including lapis lazuli, marble, jade, and onyx were used to make this mosaic. A great amount of time was spent sculpting the stones to obtain the three dimensional appearance. It is a raised sculpture piece of art unique.
