About this piece
Details: Origin: North Afghanistan Age: Circa 19th Century Dimensions: 8” Diameter x 5” Height Description: This woven hat is over 100 years old and was given as a dowry gift. First, it was hand-woven, and then the suzanni needlework embroidery was added. After that, silver ornaments were placed on the top to represent wealth and convey good luck. The tassels have telesma attached to them that are intended to convey good luck as well as keep evil eyes away. The extremely intricate attention to detail reveals that the bride that wore this hat was very important.
